PHONE ETIQUETTE

  • Please be courteous and mute your phone when you are not speaking. It is helpful if you can keep track of your name in the order of callers and introduce the person that follows you when done sharing.
  • Today there are many ways to mute your phone. Whether you are driving, using VOIP, etc. it is very important that everyone be able to hear the message clearly.
  • Occassionally there is background noise and the secretary may need to mute the entire line. Q&A Mode – This mode allows Participants to un-mute themselves, permitting a ‘question and answer’ or interactive session to be held during a conference call.
  • Each teleconference meeting allows callers to use the system mute feature by pressing *6 or 4* depending on service. You will need to toggle back-n-forth between sharing and silencing your line (mute/unmute yourself). You will hear an audio acknowledgement accordingly.

Similar to announcement above, British Summer Time - Daylight Saving ended 10/28 and will affect meetings hosted in London. Thus, GMT (No UTC offset) is a 4 hour difference from EDT until United States falls back this weekend. It currently shows meeting starting @ 3:00 PM EDT. Soon it will change to 2:00 PM EST. The Skype meetings are based on the UTC/GMT offset and then adjusted to Eastern Standard Time. Daylight Saving Time ends 11/4, thus EDT is listed temporarily for your convenience. For example, Australia is 14 hours ahead of EDT in New York and 15 hours ahead of EST in New York. So, time will change from 5:30 AM to 4:30 AM after 11/4. See Announcements below for more information.
